This is not for self learning, you need a tutor then it is a good book.

Generally easy to follow and I like the download material. The binding is not good though and the pages are falling out.

The content of the book was good but the CD doesn't work.My Arabic teacher also said that because the book is written by Moroccans, some of the pronunciations can be a little more specific to Moroccan dialect.

It is a little bit of confusing orginaztion but perhaps it is a confusing language. The CD is the best part.

I really like this series of books. If you're going to visit a country, this book gives you the basics.

I really like the way this book immerses the reader into Arabic. Kershu slips in Arabic words in the midst of English explanations, so before you realize it, you're learning another Arabic word. Also this book teaches the script along with the transliteration; a necessary tool for mastery. You are taught useful and important words, questions, phrases first--very good for those not just interested in getting by for a Middle Eastern visit. The audio is also very quite good. Highly recommend.

It's a great book. Makes learning Arabic easier! The cd is helpful when trying to memorize the alphabet and the sounds of the letters. It's taking me longer than 10 minutes per day but I'm learning a lot!

it even comes with vocab stickers you can use around your house, and cut-out flash cards in the back. Very clear and informative

Use for pleasure reading. Enjoying the historic aspect

The author presents a well-documented history of school desegration in Richmond. As a resident of Virginia during this time, the author presents the issues you might not have been aware of when you were only in elementary school. The author also is informative as to his insights into the courts, the judges, and the parties on both sides of the argument. The author's analysis of Detroit and Charlotte-Mecklenburg cases helped me to draw my own conclusions of how history played out over the past 50+ years and in hindsight how some ideas may have had flaws. While there was some controversy in my rural area of Virginia at this time, I was vaguely aware of the issues in the capital city. This book helped to fill in some of the gaps of not being there as well as explain the chain of events leading up to this point - many of which were before I was even born.If you are from the right, you may not like this book. If you are middle-class and white, you might not like what you read. While the white middle-class played a major role in the transformation of Richmond, it was interesting to learn of the division within the class between "metropolitan whites" and their rural counterparts. For those that know the area, you would have to admit that Richmond has become a kind of urban "suburb" to the surrounding counties - especially Henrico County. Except for state government, law firms, and banking offices, most large retailers and shopping areas are located in the suburbs. (Department stores long abandoned downtown.) That form of economic segregation may be a subject for another author.

Every tax payer should read this book. It's an excellent explanation of the history of our nation's public school system. it's an easy read and very informative. It's not just for parents and teachers. Anyone can educate themselves on how our taxes are (or aren't) at work and take a stand for things to go differently.

I read this as a textbook for an Education class, and it is really eye opening. "Fixing" schools is a concept that gets thrown around a lot, after reading this you will have much more context about why some schools fail, and some of the few ways we could possibly fix them. Whether those fixes are popular enough that they could be implemented is another story.

This is a great book that takes apart the issues impacting the opportunity gap.

Wish ebooks had page numbers but the cost was great

The book was very factual and boring. It chronicled the educational system from the 50's to the present. The author did not spend much time talking about Freeman or T.J. I really wanted to hear about those schools and not the history of segregation in our educational system.

As a public school teacher, this book is a must read!!! Some of the reviews I read on this book I can't help think these people have NO CLUE as to what goes on in public education. I especially liked the comment from another review "he doesn't say anything about the parent attitude"!! Really?! Wow. That comment made me chuckle. What this book does do is present facts. It was an eye opener for me. This book advocates more of a way for schools to be truly desegregated. A lot of schools still flirt with the idea of segregation, and as this book chronicles, government giving more $$$/title 1 money to poor under performing schools isn't the answer. After teaching in various schools, it shocks me how much money an underperforming low SES school gets from the government versus a well upper class school with no government money. (And they still outperform their poor school neighbors without the millions of dollars) Students will benefit from being integrated with each other. Integrated by social class and race. A must read for anyone and everyone concerned with kids and the public education system today.

Carefully read the first half of this book a couple times and you can expect to deeply internalize the most general, enduring principles of analyzing competitive advantage and entry barriers.This book's value is its simplicity. There's nothing groundbreaking here. Greenwald's got no axe to grind, no TED-talk tailored concept to (over) sell. The ratio of insight to fluff is very high, so you'll actually remember what you read.Non-practitioner's won't grasp how valuable a simple, deeply internalized analysis framework is. Researching a company you know nothing about- cracking open a fresh 10-K - can be overwhelming. A simple framework focuses your attention, let's you filter out the noise, and zoom in on the pertinent.Porter's five forces isn't wrong, it's just excessive and distracting. Sure, it's nice for an MBA assignment: go analyze company X on these five dimensions. But if the lesson learned is that equal effort should be expended analyzing "supplier power" as "entry barriers", then the student has been deceived.Scholars love excessive complication. I recall the corporate finance section of the CFA exam, wherein project go/no-go decisions depend on said project's stock market Beta, with calculations carried out to the decimal point. All this "rigor" for calculating project discount rates despite the empirical fact that Beta doesn't work. It's not just slightly wrong. It gets the *sign* of the covariance-return relationship wrong. Amazing.My point is that Greenwald runs counter this tendency. He cuts away the baloney, ignores the auxiliary, and solidifies the foundation of competitive analysis.*The second half of the book, which deals with strategic interaction, isn't vital. It feels like Greenwald threw it in because his publisher wanted a longer book.

I am always reading, I am 33 years old, and this book has been the most important business book I have ever read in my life. It provides a straightfoward framework to analyse and understand the quality of a business, the existence of barriers to entry and the sustainability of these barriers (when identified that barriers currently exist).

A must read for business strategy and investing.

My two key takeaways from reading Greenwald's well-argued and counterintuitive premise are:1. There are but a few fundamental sources of competitive advantage2. Most companies can tap these sources at a local level (not a national or international level)These show that the front-line manager - the regional coordinator of retail chain or the country manager of service firm - has the power (and the obligation) to pursue local competitive advantages. Greenwald provides a simple, intuitive method for helping such "front-line strategists" seek out a competitive edge.I recommend this highly for anyone who aspires to be a strategist.

This is the best book on marketing I have ever read. It completely broadens one's thinking beyond the basics of brand recognition and product advertising. With numerous case studies ranging from the PC industry to the creation of CDs to Rupert Murdoch's decision to Create the Fox Television Network, the book presents thorough leasons in business alchemy in a highly readable fashion.

Overall a great book. I would've enjoyed a section of insights on when to exit an unprofitable business line versus attempt to operate at a higher level of efficiency. If anyone has suggestions please post

A great feature that I appreciated about his writing is the fact that he does not highlight just one single piece of equipment, he analyzes multiple pieces of equipment. For example, if you want to know which top handle or cages to use for your cinema camera, Marco will lay out a handful of these accessories and dive into the pros and cons of each. In addition the added links to find more info or purchase the equipment was so helpful! Saved us from many searches on google. Overall, this is a great book for any level; whether you're experienced or just getting into videography. We even use the book as a reference to rig other cameras that are not Blackmagic. Great work Marco and we look forward to future literature from you and your team!

This a truly informative and in-depth book on rigging the Cinema Camera and 4K. I love the fact that it goes beyond that and applies to any camera. Despite one of the other reviews claiming the author being arrogant by shooting countless photos of how the gear is used, I found all these photos to be of huge help and of high quality. Since when is it a fault to have a lot of photos and copyright information for photos in a book? At any rate, I highly recommend this book.

I commend the author with the large amount of work and detail that went into making this book. Love all the setups, parts and photos covered in so much detail. I wish all camera books could be this thorough. Definitely recommended.

Just moved to Omaha. This fun but factual read helped me feel connected to the place. History written in the way Mr. Bristow writes it makes it so much more fun and way more memorable. Every town has their own sorted "wicked" history why shouldn't Omaha! It sure is a great town now!

I enjoyed reading this book mainly because I lived in Omaha from my birth to age 28. It was interesting to know where some of the street names came from and also to know the background of the names of some buildings and museums and bridges. I had no idea that Omaha had such a storied history and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It has been shared among many of my family members. I ordered this book from Amazon because after receiving mine as a loaner I wanted to be able to send it on to others.

this is a fantastic book about a begone era of the western groth of our nation. it is extreme well documentedand should be read by scholars of this time period.

I am now reading this book and enjoying it a lot. Learning lots about Omaha area. Till recently I lived in Bellevue mentioned in the book. Now living across Missouri river in Iowa and go to Council Bluffs frequently. It is in the book also

What a wonderful walk thru the early history of Omaha...the good, the bad and the ugly. A must for history readers who are interested in the taming of the west'

What a splendid book to use while visiting Paris! It will entertain you, give you a Paris which is long gone and yet you can be there using your imagination and the reality left behind. Some sadness will be inevitable for the Paris you will discover with your imagination unfortunately no longer exists ... but you will see it never the less. And, perhaps the best part of your visit, with the help of this book, is the fact that it will take you places away from the usual tourist destinations and into a far more interesting and exciting Paris of the early 19th century.Great book ... if you love Paris of 21st century but you know that the old Paris is still there to be imagined and revisited.

As I wrote in my review of the seller (should have waited to put it here) the book is definitely worth having. At first, because of my glaucoma, I was intimidated by the small format and wished it had been a coffee table book -- but then it would be hard to travel with. Here's my conclusion: if it's good enough that I'm willing to sit with a magnifying glass to read it -- every page of it -- then it's a very good book. Mind you, this is not Bible-sized print -- it's just smaller because it's in a paperback version, so if you don't have vision problems, you won't have the problem I had. Having been a collector on various levels over the years, I have much appreciation for Mr. Pitt's tenacity in acquiring the photos and maps needed to reconstruct ancient neighborhoods for the reader. How I wish I had had this book during the years that I was traveling to Paris! Unfortunately, as I am writing this, I have left both the book and my reading glasses on the ranch and I am in Dallas, so I can't point out specific things I'd like to share, but the book abounds with stories I've never heard before such as the first coffee shop in Paris -- now four or five hundred years old -- and I am under the impression that it is still there. How I'd love to go now! There is the less happy information about Dr. Guillotine's test sheep, stories of star-crossed lovers, etc. There are comparison photos on every page; that is, the neighborhood as it was and the neighborhood as it is today. The more I read in this book, the more I wanted to read. That's the way a book should be. It is painful to see the architecture that was destroyed (some of it needlessly it seems) but at least through this book it has been memorialized and we have a chance to get a glimpse of the Old Paris. So, thank you, Mr. Pitt! Incidentally, I found this book when I read "The House I Loved", followed by "Sarah's Key", author Tatiana de Rosnay. The former made me hungry for more knowledge of Haussman and his obsession, the latter was a book I couldn't put down and it covered an important and heart-rending historical event that I'd never heard of.

I own maybe 15 "walking tour" books, but this is by far my favorite.Pitt peppers his narrative with bits of history, architectural explanations -- and even the occasional cultural observation. As a result, his walks provide a deep understanding of the people and events that shaped Paris into the city it is today.And the photos: I can only imagine the countless hours of research that went into comparing the historical documents with the modern street views. The result is an extraordinary record of the city's transformation, unlike any other I've seen.If you want to move beyond the monuments and experience the true heart of historic Paris, I highly recommend this book. To me, it's a masterpiece.

By our third trip to Paris we had already seen all the usual tourist sights and wanted something new. This book provided it. After following the walking tours in this book we saw parts of Paris we probably would never have seen otherwise, learned a lot more about the history of the city, and developed a much better understanding of how the city has evolved and why different parts of it look as they do. I would especially recommend this book for people who have already visited Paris at least once. However, it could also be used by someone who will be visiting the city for the first time, if they will be spending more than a few days. Sure, go see the usual sights first, but then use this book to really understand what you're seeing. Following just one of the tours in this book (there are four) will give the reader a much deeper appreciation for this most unusual and exciting city.While most directions are easy to follow, and overview maps are provided (although not all streets are shown or marked), we still found a few places where we got confused. Fortunately, we had a good Paris map with us, so it wasn't a problem. Therefore, the only thing I would suggest is that the reader be sure to have a good map of the city in addition to this book.

This is a great little book to have. Author Leonard Pitt has done some deep digging into the stories of four (plus or minus) wonderful Parisian neighborhoods that are at the city's historic heart- West Bank/St.Germain des Pres; Ile de la Cite; St.Germain to Palais Royal and the Marais. Using photos (contemporary and very old) postcards and drawings to illustrate how specific locations have changed, evolved or kept their original characteristics, Pitt provides some little known information that makes some favorite spots a lot more interesting, even for regular visitors to the city.There were some major surprises in this book, as a lot of familiar parts of Paris have changed drastically over the years. From the modern perspective, the more open vistas that more or less started with the Haussmann makeover, make the city the marvelous walking tour that it is, but clearly a lot of urban character has been lost as the evolution has taken place.The book is organized as a menu of walking ours with 192 pages of excellent text and many illustrations.
